Keyboard Shortcuts

CutOptim has a short, deliberate set of keyboard shortcuts. This page lists all of them — if a combination is not on this page, it does nothing.

On macOS, replace Ctrl with Cmd in every shortcut below.

Global

These work anywhere in the app, including while you are typing in a table cell.

Ctrl +S opens the same save dialog as the Save button in the top bar, letting you pick the project and cut to save into. CutOptim deliberately intercepts this shortcut so your browser’s “Save page as…” window does not open over the app.

Stock and Parts tables

These apply when the focus is inside a cell of the Stock or Parts table.

Enter always commits what you typed. In the last row of the table it also appends a new row and moves the cursor into its first field, so you can keep entering pieces without reaching for the mouse. In any earlier row it only commits and leaves the cursor where it is — editing an existing piece never adds anything to your cut list.

For more than a handful of pieces, the paste and CSV import paths are faster than typing row by row. Copy your list straight out of Excel or Google Sheets and paste it into the table’s paste zone. See Importing Data.

Tab steps through every control in the row, not only the numeric cells — that includes the colour swatch, the rotation checkbox, the edge-banding button and the delete button. Reaching the next row’s first field takes several presses; Enter gets you there in one.

Dialogs and panels

While a dialog is open, the global shortcuts above are suspended — Ctrl +Enter will not start a run behind an open dialog.

What is not available

CutOptim has no shortcut for the following. They are listed here so you do not go hunting for them:

Undo / redo — not implemented. Ctrl +Z does nothing.
Canvas zoom and sheet navigation — use the scroll wheel and the on-screen sheet controls.
Mode switching — use the 2D Panel / 1D Linear tabs in the top bar.
Row delete and duplicate — use the row’s own ✕ button.
Opening settings, exports, or the project panel — use their toolbar buttons.

FAQ

Do shortcuts work while a table cell is focused?

Ctrl+Enter and Ctrl+S work from anywhere in the app, including while you are typing in a Stock or Parts cell. Enter is table-specific: it confirms the cell, and adds a new row only when you are in the last row of a Stock or Parts table.

I pressed Enter while editing an existing piece. Will that add a row I did not want?

No. Enter only adds a row when the cursor is in the last row of the table. Editing any earlier row just confirms the value and leaves the cursor in place.

Why does Ctrl+S no longer open my browser's Save Page dialog?

CutOptim intercepts Ctrl+S and opens its own save dialog instead, so the shortcut saves your cut rather than downloading a copy of the web page. This is the behaviour on every browser.

Is there an undo shortcut?

No. Undo and redo are not implemented, so Ctrl+Z does nothing in CutOptim. If you have run an optimization and try to navigate away without saving, CutOptim shows a dialog offering to save first, so an unsaved run is not lost by accident.

Can I customise keyboard shortcuts?

Not currently. The shortcut list on this page is fixed. Ctrl on Windows and Linux corresponds to Cmd on macOS.

Are there shortcuts for zooming the canvas or switching modes?

No. Zoom the canvas with the scroll wheel and switch modes with the 2D Panel and 1D Linear tabs in the top bar. Only the shortcuts listed on this page exist.
