Everything you need to get the most out of CutOptim — from first optimization to advanced CNC export.
Getting Started
Getting Started with CutOptim
Learn how to use CutOptim to optimize your cutting in minutes. From adding materials to exporting your first cut plan.
Interface Overview
Understand the CutOptim interface: the left input sidebar, the results canvas, the top bar, and the project panel.
Pay-as-you-go Credits
Buy one-time credit packs instead of subscribing — 10 or 25 optimizations, valid 12 months, no monthly commitment.
Features
2D Panel Cutting
Optimize rectangular sheet material: plywood, MDF, glass, metal sheets, foam board. Full guide to 2D mode in CutOptim.
1D Linear Cutting
Optimize rods, pipes, bars, and profiles with CutOptim's 1D linear cutting mode. Minimize offcuts and material waste.
Wood Cutting Mode
Specialized mode for timber, lumber, and structural wood with cross-section matching and per-profile cutting plans.
Limited Stock & Priority Cuts
Cap the optimizer to the boards you actually own, then flag the parts that must be cut first. Covers Limited stock mode, priority (must-cut) pieces, editable piece colours, and how both appear in the cut list and PDF — in 2D, 1D linear and wood cutting.
Settings — kerf, trim, tolerance & cost
Master every setting in the CutOptim sidebar: kerf width, kerf tolerance, per-side trim, minimum offcut, calibration cut, cutting stages, first cut direction, currency, optimization goal, cost per cut, area-based pricing and detailed cost entry.
Kerf tolerance — when, why, how
Kerf tolerance lets the optimizer accept pieces that overshoot the bar by up to a small amount. A practical guide to measuring real-world kerf jitter, picking the right value, and reading the tolerance counter on the results page.
Projects & Cuts
Save, organize, and switch between cutting projects and individual cuts. How saving actually works, and why cloud saving is a Pro feature.
Exports & Downloads
Export your cutting plan as PDF, CSV, SVG, DXF, label sheets, or quotation. Full guide to every export format.
Sharing a plan by link
Send a saved cutting plan to a customer or supplier as a read-only web link. How long links last, how to revoke one, and what the page does and does not show.
Offcut Inventory
Track and reuse leftover material to cut waste over time. CutOptim cuts from your saved offcuts first, then deducts what the run used.
Progress Tracking
Track cutting progress per sheet or bar directly in CutOptim. Mark sheets as cut, in progress, or done — state saves automatically.
Importing Data
Import cut lists from CSV files or paste stock and parts directly from Excel and Google Sheets. Save time on large jobs with bulk data entry.
Furniture Templates
Turn outer dimensions into a cut list. Five templates: TV stand, bookshelf, wardrobe, kitchen base cabinet and a box (or cube), thickness already subtracted.
Pro
True-shape nesting
Nesting mode packs irregular polygon parts — brackets, gussets, gaskets — onto sheets, interlocking their real outlines instead of their bounding boxes. Import SVG/DXF, add exclusion zones, and export SVG/DXF/PDF/Excel.
Company Branding
Add your company name, logo, and slogan to PDF exports for a professional client-facing presentation. Available on every plan.
Material-specific mode
Material-specific mode makes the optimizer cut each part only from stock of the same material — oak from oak, 18 mm from 18 mm — in one run across every mode.
Material inventory
Save and reuse frequently used sheet sizes and bar lengths. The Material inventory keeps your common stock materials one click away, synced across your devices.
Area-based pricing
Price parts by the square foot or square metre: put a rate on a material and each part's selling price fills itself in from its own size.
Cutting Sequence
Step through the exact order of cuts on sheets and bars alike: one fence setting per step, a clickable plan table, and the same order in the PDF and Excel.
Custom Text Fields
Add client name, project number, and any other metadata to every PDF export using Custom Text Fields. Configured in the Dashboard.
Business
Team Workspace
BizShare projects and cuts across your team with CutOptim's Team Workspace. Up to 3 members work from the same project list, cuts and progress markers.
Grain Matching
BizKeep matched panels on the same board and in the same grain direction. Group the parts that must look like one piece, and CutOptim cuts them together.
Quotation PDF
BizTurn a finished cut plan into a client quotation: customer block, itemized materials, cutting charge, labour, margin and VAT under your own branding.
